England midfielder Angel Gomes was sent off as Lille suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sporting Lisbon in their Champions League opener in Lisbon.
The former Manchester United star, 24, made his full debut for the Three Lions in their 2-0 win over Finland last week.
He impressed with his composure and industriousness, and Ian Wright and Roy Keane were among those who led his praise.
But Gomes’ memorable month was initially marred when he was booked for pushing Sporting winger Francisco Trincao after 21 minutes.
He was then sent off for bringing down Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres five minutes before half-time.

Gomes’ red card came just a week after making his senior England debut against Finland.
Sporting had created several dangerous chances in the first half, but goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier saved them until Gyokeres capitalised on a delicious pass from Pedro Goncalves to open the scoring in the 38th minute.
In the second half, Debast fired a superb long-range shot into the top right corner to seal the victory for the home side.
The Portuguese club are sixth in the standings and will face Dutch side PSV Eindhoven on October 1 in the new format, which sees clubs play eight games in a 36-team league phase instead of the previous group stage.
Meanwhile, Gomes’ contract with Lille expires this summer and reports have suggested he will not extend his stay at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.
That could leave a number of clubs vying for the star, who is now in his fourth season as a regular at Lille after a loan spell at Portuguese club Boavista.
Newcastle could be in a battle with Liverpool, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund to sign Gomes, according to The Sun.
