A video of a large cat running at high speed through a rural field has sparked debate on the Internet about whether it is a very large wild black cat, a panther or even a very successful creation of artificial intelligence.
The clip, filmed near Ballarat, Victoria, 120 kilometers northeast of Melbourne, has gone viral with many commenters expressing skepticism about what they are seeing.
The one-minute video, shown for the first time in the Relics gold coins Facebook site shows the creature running across a field passing a large shed and several huge grain silos.
It follows a series of similar sightings of what many thought was a black panther in the same region in 2018.
Some viewers of the latest sighting are taking no chances and want to avoid the area, with one asking to be told exactly where the big cat was seen “so I can stay away.”

Another wrote that “There is a story that some of these big cats were released after World War II by American troops who kept them as pets here on military bases.”
A third noted that similar sightings have also occurred elsewhere.
“Kuitpo Mount Bold Area Adelaide Hills. I know of some sightings,” they said, and in another writing they said they “saw one about 40 years ago in Barrington National Park.”
Others were more skeptical, however, with one commenter saying it’s a “huge ex-domestic feral black cat.”
“Don’t fool yourself or your credibility with other scenarios.”
Another person agreed, observing that: “Feral cats grow to be as big as a dog.”
A third wrote: “Hello kitty, black cat not black panther the wrong size.”
Another person wrote: ‘While hunting about 10 years ago my partner shot a black cat that wasn’t that big but looked like a small panther.
“But it was a wild cat… it had a very shiny coat, a very healthy animal that lived off birds and animals.”
Others simply admired the creature, whatever it is, with one writing: “Would love a cat that size haha what a beast.”
Other posters, however, estimated that there could be some trick.
“It’s amazing how someone filming a cat running with a phone kept it right in the middle of the screen the entire time,” one commenter wrote.
“With AI everything is credible,” said another.
Following previous sightings six years ago, experts from the local University of New England (UNE) joined the debate.
UNE zoologist Guy Ballard said he had had his own encounter with a big cat in Warrumbungle National Park.

“It stopped me in my tracks, but when we investigated, it was definitely a swamp wallaby,” he said. The courier service.

“Also, when a wallaby lands with both paws together, its tracks can look a bit like the larger single-paw print of a predator.
“Some people brought me plaster casts of these, only to be disappointed,” he said.
