Harry Kane was injured in the second half of the weekend’s match between Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt and left the England selectors sweating over his fitness.

The Three Lions captain was competing for a ball in the second half when he collided with an opposing player and was left lying on the grass and requiring medical attention.

Kane appeared to have suffered an impact to his ankle and, after failing to continue while wincing in pain, was hooked by Bayern coach Vincent Kompany.

The club’s physiotherapists could be seen tending to Kane’s right leg, massaging his groin as the striker lay in agony as his replacement, Mathys Tel, prepared to come on.

The 31-year-old was replaced with around 20 minutes remaining as Bayern conceded an injury-time equalizer in their first match after a shock midweek Champions League defeat against Aston Villa.

England head coach Lee Carsley will now be awaiting an urgent update on Kane’s fitness as his Three Lions squad prepare to assemble next week.

On a more positive note, Kane was able to walk off the pitch unassisted and applauded Kompany before taking a seat on the bench.

The former Tottenham star now faces a race against time to be fit for the upcoming UEFA Nations League clashes against Greece and Finland.

Former boss Gareth Southgate trusted Kane to lead the national team’s attack and has maintained his role under Carsley despite the impressive recent form of Ollie Watkins and Dominic Solanke.

If he is not fit to join his Three Lions team-mates, Carsley could opt to call up a replacement for Kane as he continues to audition for the job permanently.
