Boxing star Harry Garside has revealed his optimistic hopes for the Australian boxing team at the Paris 2024 Olympics and how many medals he wants them to win.
The 26-year-old Olympic bronze medalist wrestler admitted on The Project on Friday that he was hopeful the Australian boxing team, which has never won an Olympic gold medal, would take home four this year.
‘We are going to win several, I will be one of them. We are going to win a lot, I call it four medals,’ he began.
“I think we have a great opportunity and, heading into the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, hopefully we can inspire some people!”
The Melbourne-born boxer then revealed the one exercise he hated doing during his training sessions.

‘I’m a bit of a sick pup, I love destroying myself in training sessions. But exercise bikes suck, getting punched in the face is the fun part!’
After winning bronze at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Garside has made no secret that he will be seeking Australia’s first Olympic gold medal in boxing, competing in the sport’s lightweight division.
In December, he revealed his theory on The Project about why Australia had never won gold despite producing incredible boxers.

“I think the difference between professional boxing and amateur boxing is that they’re almost two different sports, right?” he said.
Professional boxing is a little bit longer and we’ve had a lot of incredible fighters, but amateur boxing, the Kazakhs, the Uzbeks, the Soviets and the Cubans, they’re amazing amateur boxers and they’re really hard to beat in three rounds and I think that’s why Australia hasn’t had much success.
Even though it had never been achieved before, Garside said he had confidence in his team heading into the Games.
“I think we have an incredible team, we have 11 other athletes and I think every one of them is capable of having a chance at a medal,” he said.
