Hannah Waddingham has revealed how she fell out with Ted Lasso’s bosses while filming the comedy series.
The actress, 50, recalled how producers wanted her character Rebecca Welton to maintain her usual glamorous look even when she woke up in bed with one of their actors.
However, Hannah disagreed, resulting in an argument with both the makeup department and the show’s bosses as she struggled to keep her character “accessible” to fans.
She refused to wear makeup for the scene, insisting that it should look realistic to appear sexier and prevent viewers from “turning off.”
Hannah said she first discussed this with her makeup artist, who wanted her makeup done in a discreet and limited way, but then the issue ended up being discussed with the show’s bosses.
Hannah Waddingham has revealed how she fell out with Ted Lasso’s bosses over her character Rebecca Welton.
The actress, 50, recalled how producers wanted her character Rebecca Welton to maintain her usual glamorous look even when she woke up in bed with one of their actors.
The singer argued that Rebecca would look sexier if she looked like she had slept shortly after a night with the young player than if her face looked perfect.
Talking about the Table for two On the podcast, Hannah explained: “She won’t mind me saying it, but my hair and makeup artist on Ted Lasso, there’s a moment where I’m lying in bed with Toheeb’s character, Sam Obisanya, and I was like: ‘Not if they wake up together and I don’t want to put on makeup.’
‘The make-up artist said: “Well, no, no, no, you have to do it, it has to be like ‘no make-up’.”
And I said, “No, no, no, I don’t want anything.” And in a way it reached the powers that be. They said, “Hannah doesn’t want to wear makeup.”
‘Because I want her to be approachable. I know everyone was rooting for Rebecca Welton and I take her very seriously.
‘I thought he just wanted everyone to see his pores and everything, warts and all.
“And that’s how I like all the characters, because your vulnerability is very close to your greatest strength.”
Hannah said audiences would “switch off” when they saw a character wake up in bed still as glamorous as the night before.

The actress added: “There’s something much sexier and more exciting about the fact that he’s clearly had a great night.”
Addressing season 4 rumors, Hannah said, “I don’t know. All I know is that Welton hasn’t left my heart.
‘I think there is a possibility. Who knows? All I know is that the writers’ room was a writers’ room of champions, magnificent writers, and it spoils you for every other job.
“Because now, and I’m very happy about this, unless I get a script that pushes and pulls me as much as Ted did, I mean, you could be in a scene and almost with one sentence touch people’s heartstrings and then make them laugh, like slap them in the face.
And I’ve never known anything like it. The beauty of that writers room was that it was packed, packed with male feminists, and you can see it in the writings everywhere.
‘Juno and I, as main characters, never felt dominated by all our men. They were the most beautiful five years of my working life. Total and absolute happiness without end.

Video shared by a fan on X captures the moment the Ted Lasso star posed outside the Royal Albert Hall before a photographer apparently asked him to “show his leg.”
The photographer’s comments are inaudible, but Hannah is seen shouting to the crowd of photographers: “My God, you would never say that to a man, my friend.”
