‘I felt violated’: Stunned Airbnb guest, 26, claims she found a secret CAMERA hidden in an outlet pointed at the SHOWER in her rental home
A woman was left terrified after she and her friends discovered a hidden camera pointing to the shower in the Airbnb where they were staying. Kennedy Calwell (pictured), 26, from Canada, was staying in an Airbnb on British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast when she and her 14 friends found the tiny spy device. The 26-year-old described the moment when her boyfriend “surveyed” the whole house before landing on camera.
Kennedy claimed that the small recording device was pointed in the direction of the shower and toilet and spied on them during their intimate moments. “We just found out we’re being watched on our Airbnb,” she said at the start of the clip, which has been viewed more than 7.1 million times. Kennedy explained that 15 people stayed in an Airbnb for her friend’s 30th birthday.
She said one of her friends had seen a lot of videos on TikTok where people claimed to have found hidden cameras and was very “paranoid”, so she decided to search the house. Kennedy remembered the moment when her friend started looking around the house. She took out her flashlight and went to investigate. She looked for every showerhead, every picture frame, doorknob, everywhere in the house for a camera, and she found one,” Kennedy said.
The 26-year-old described the exact location of the camera. She said, “In the bathroom, one of the outlets was pointed directly at the shower.” While sharing footage of the outlet, she added, “Okay, first of all, this outlet didn’t work, you couldn’t plug anything into it. You can see at the top (of the exhaust) that there’s nothing there, looks perfectly normal, and then look in the bottom one, at that little camera.’
She told the Mirror: “We felt violated, scared and disappointed when what should have been a fun weekend turned into something dark.” “Anyway, we panicked and called the police,” she explained at the end of her clip.
Kennedy claimed that police searched the house, found the cameras and sent them for “analysis.” She told the outlet: “The owners claim the cameras were not put there by them. I don’t know about them. However, it may have been a previous guest.’ An Airbnb spokesperson told Yahoo: “We are banning hidden cameras and we are investigating these allegations. The guest who booked this reservation received a full refund.”
Viewers rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts on the horrific situation, with many claiming camera paranoia is causing them to opt for hotels over vacation rentals. “I have stopped using Airbnb,” said one person. Another person added, “Why are people still staying in Airbnbs?”
Someone else wrote: ‘The moral is stay in hotels and trust your intuition! Safe travels.’
“Omg my worst nightmare,” commented another user.
