Former Jetstar pilot Greg Lynn may yet be forced to answer more uncomfortable questions about his ex-wife’s “suicide.”
Lisa Lynn was found dead in October 1999 after consuming a lethal cocktail of alcohol and sleeping pills.
It can now be revealed that detectives are seeking to have the Victorian coroner open a second investigation into the mother-of-two’s tragic death.
On Tuesday, a Victorian Supreme Court jury acquitted Lynn of the murder of elderly camper Russell Hill, but found him guilty of the murder of Carol Clay.
The detectives tasked with arresting Lynn now believe there is enough new evidence in the Lisa Lynn case to warrant a new investigation.
It is understood police are in the process of speaking to those who knew Lynn in the hope of learning more about the information he shared about his then-wife two decades ago.
Lynn’s unusual personality has long been the subject of speculation in airline circles. Herald of the sun reported.
The disgraced former pilot spent five years flying airliners for Qatar Airways in the Middle East before joining Jetstar in 2007.
Lisa Lynn was found to have committed suicide, but her mother believes Greg Lynn drove her to do it.
Rumors have circulated for years within the airline industry about a woman who supposedly disappeared in the desert while in Qatar at the same time as Lynn.
His alleged disappearance was mentioned by those who knew Lynn years before he was charged with the campers’ murders, the newspaper reported.
It is believed to be a story that sparked the interest of detectives who had not yet finished investigating the extent of Lynn’s criminality.
Lisa Lynn’s parents had previously told the coroner about their concerns about the then-pilot while she was living with their daughter in Mount Macedon, northwest of Melbourne.
Lisa was found curled up in a fetal position outside the family home, while the couple’s two children, aged one and three, were sleeping inside.
Victorian coroner Graeme Johnstone said Lisa was believed to be deeply depressed at the time of her death.
However, the coroner was left with lingering questions about whether he had intended to take his life or not.
Medical examiners later revealed that his blood alcohol content was 0.2, more than three times the legal limit for driving a car.
They also found traces of antidepressants in his system.
Lisa Lynn had been tormented by her husband Greg, which drove her to suicide, according to her mother.
Lisa Lynn lived in fear of her ex-husband Greg Lynn and ultimately took her own life, according to court documents. The information was not before the Victorian Supreme Court jury.
Lisa’s mother, who was traveling from Tasmania to help her daughter in distress, provided a disturbing statement to the coroner about Greg Lynn, including accusations of animal cruelty, violence and “bizarre” behaviour.
“As well as not getting any support from Greg, he subjected her to physical and mental abuse on a regular basis,” she told the coroner.
‘These events happened too often to remember, specifically things like losing your temper for no reason and blaming Lisa for anything that went wrong.
Then he yelled at her, threw things at her and pushed her. I felt very uncomfortable when these events occurred because he was unwilling to interfere and Lisa was pleading with me for her not to interfere.
Lisa’s mother told the coroner that her daughter told her that any interference on her part would result in more pain and misery at home.
‘Greg’s behavior in general would be described as strange. In my opinion, he has a deformed mind,” he told the coroner.
“He has done things in the past like killing animals and a neighbor’s pet, refusing to feed children when he was supposed to be babysitting them, and on one occasion, he exploded into a fit of uncontrollable rage when we went to dinner at the Macedonia Hotel.”
Greg Lynn was convicted of murder
Greg Lynn’s second wife Melanie (left) and Lisa’s son Geordie arrive at court during Lynn’s trial.
Carol Clay and Russell Hill died in the remote Victorian wilderness. Lynn was convicted of Clay’s murder, but not Hill’s.
Lisa’s mother told the court that Lynn verbally attacked a man at the bar after he made the mistake of talking to Lisa.
He then became furious with his then-wife after leaving the hotel, she told the coroner.
“The only thing I would like to add is that, as far as I am concerned, Greg is responsible for my daughter’s death due to mental torture inflicted by him,” Lisa’s mother told the court.
‘I know she lived in absolute fear of Greg. I accept from what (I have been told) about the circumstances in which she died, that she was alone that night.
“Greg was not there, however, his actions were the culmination of the fear and terror he lived in.”
The court heard that Lisa had kept a detailed diary of her fractured relationship with Lynn.
Lynn will appear in court at a future date for a pre-sentence hearing for Clay’s murder.
