An elderly man died and a woman was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following an alleged stabbing as police cordoned off a quiet suburban street.
Emergency services were called to Mattison Way in Greenwood, north of Perth, about 8am on Monday after a man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s were found inside a house with stab wounds. White weapon.
He died at the scene while the woman was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital.
Air resources and the police dog unit were called in as detectives launched an urgent search for the suspected knife.

Residents of the suburb were warned to “stay at home until we can give you further advice”, while others trying to return home were stopped at the police checkpoint.
“The public should be alert, not alarmed,” the text message said.

Residents spent more than an hour locked in before police finally located the suspected armed attacker, 19, 5 kilometers away in the nearby suburb of Kingsley, and arrested him in dramatic scenes.
“I heard someone yell ‘get on the ground, get on the ground,'” one resident said. Seven news.

The man remains in police custody. No charges have been filed at this first stage.

A distraught man and woman, believed to be relatives of the elderly couple, were seen comforting each other at the scene.
According to shocked neighbors, the old man had been living on the streets for 22 years.
