Disturbing video footage shows two teenage suspects climbing out of the wreck on Tuesday after crashing a stolen car. The girls are accused of carjacking UberEats driver Mohammed Anwar, 66, of Springfield, Virginia
Video shows the teenage girls trying to run away while Anwar lay motionless on the sidewalk after being thrown from the car. National Guard troops detained 13 and 15 year old suspects until police arrived
The 90-second clip begins with Anwar struggling to regain control of his car after the two girls have already moved in.
“They are thieves,” he hears as he tries to get the girl out of the driver’s seat of the parked car. ‘This is my car!’
The teenager suddenly accelerates and steers the car through the 1200 block of Van Street SE, while Anwar still clings to the driver’s side door.
Anwar, an immigrant from Pakistan, leaves behind his wife, three grown children and four grandchildren
At one point, the car is seen crashing into a metal gate from the left, crushing the delivery man between the barrier and the car door.
As the car drives away, a screeching noise is heard, followed by a loud crash.
The bystander filming the incident runs to the scene of the crash and sees that the car has rolled over and the two girls are climbing out of the wreckage.
Anwar’s body may lie motionless on the sidewalk corner as witnesses rush to get help.
Two National Guardsmen who were in the area retrieved the juvenile suspects from the overturned car and held them until police responded to the scene and arrested them.
Anwar was eventually rushed to a hospital but could not be rescued. He was thrown onto the sidewalk and sustained fatal injuries, including head trauma and fractures.
The Metropolitan Police Department described the suspects in the felony murder and armed carjacking as a 13-year-old girl from Southeast DC and a 15-year-old girl from Fort Washington, Maryland. They are not named because they are juveniles.

The girl then accelerates with Anwar still hanging on the left side of the car, causing the vehicle to drive down the road at speed. At one point, the car is seen crashing into a metal gate (right) from the left and crushing the delivery driver between the barrier and the car door
Relatives said Anwar emigrated to the US from Pakistan in 2014 and worked in the food supply to care for his wife, three adult children and four grandchildren.
“The family has been devastated by this senseless crime,” relatives said in a statement. “Mohammad Anwar was a father, grandfather, husband, brother and uncle loved by many here in the United States and in Pakistan, his native country.”
The two suspects appeared in court on Wednesday WUSA9
Prosecutors alleged that the teenage girls got into Anwar’s Honda and put the gear into gear while the victim was trapped between the driver’s seat and the door.
The car then drove through Van Street SE with Anwar hanging on it. According to prosecutors, when the Honda hit something, the door swung back and hit Anwar.
As the car made a sharp right turn into North Street SE, Anwar took off and landed on the ground before his Honda crashed into two parked cars.
The Honda turned on its side after hitting something that threw Anwar onto the sidewalk
Troops of the National Guard pulled the girls, aged 13 and 15, from the victim’s overturned car. One of them is depicted in an orange sweatshirt a few steps from the victim’s body
A judge concluded that the two teenage girls are a threat to the community and a potential flight risk, and ordered them to be detained pending their next trial scheduled for March 31.
Meanwhile, the victim’s niece has one GoFundMe campaign to help pay for a traditional Muslim funeral for him. As of Thursday morning, more than $ 85,000 has been raised.
“Words cannot describe how our family is feeling right now,” Lehra Bogino wrote in the campaign description.
Devastation, confusion, shock, anger, heartache, and fear are just a few that come to mind. We will always carry him with us, but it doesn’t take away the pain of losing him so tragically and so unexpectedly quickly. ‘
