A teenager has tragically died after falling 15 meters into a river on the Gold Coast.

Emergency services received reports of the incident on the Coomera River near Riverbreeze Crescent, in Maudsland, at around 6.40pm on Sunday.

An 18-year-old man was found at the scene and succumbed to his injuries despite the best efforts of first responders.

The teenager is believed to have been swinging on a rope on a nearby embankment before falling into the river.

The Queensland Fire Department launched a desperate search for the young man, deploying a rubber boat to cross the river.

Queensland Police are not treating the death as suspicious and will prepare a report for the coroner.
