A goalkeeper is facing a massive suspension after a wild act in the South Australian State League 2 grand final at the weekend.

Cove FC goalkeeper Ryan Veitch was shown a red card in the 86th minute of the match after a moment of madness in which he brought down an opposing player.

Cove FC were leading 3-0 against Modbury Vista as the minutes ticked away until the end, when things got heated.

That led to Modbury Vista’s Dimos Karagiannis earning a penalty to keep his side in the game.

He disoriented Veitch and scored the penalty, making the score 3-1.

However, as he ran to celebrate with his teammates, the Cove FC goalkeeper stood up and delivered a brutal shoulder blow that sent Karagiannis to the ground, clutching his face.

Modbury Vista players rushed to support their teammate while Veitch was shown a red card and ejected from the game for his actions.

“He has lost a clean sheet and has lost his mind,” said the commentator.

He will now face the South Australian Football Competition Disciplinary Committee, where there is a strong chance he could be banned from much of next season.

“He got hit hard in the jaw, he’s going to have an offseason that will last several games,” posted one fan.

‘Bro shouldered the attacker to take the ball away and then looked surprised to be sent off,’ posted another.

“Today it’s five weeks,” added another.

While The Cove FC secured promotion with the win, it could come at a cost for Veitch.
