The Pennsylvania police have a 14-year-old girl in custody for the murder of a famous animal rescuer who is tied to his bed.

The Philadelphia police said that Albert Chernoff, 59, was killed with a blunt weapon at his home in Rhawnhurst, Pennsylvania on Monday around 10:30 AM.

The police had gone to Chernoff's house after she received a report from a neighbor on Tuesday shortly before 3 am, presumably because Chernoff's car had rolled against the garage door and the items had been moved inside.

When the police arrived, they said they found Chernoff – a well-known local animal rescuer – partially tied to his bed, with a huge head wound and multiple cuts on his chest, according to Philadelphia researcher.

In an attempt to uncover the identity of a suspect Wednesday, the police released surveillance footage taken from Chernoff's home.

The video showed a person walking through the living room and kitchen of the house, using the sink to wash his hands, and looking through the fridge before going through the front door. Cats can be seen in the background of the clip.

The police did not specify the gender of the person in the video, but noted that the suspect was wearing a black jacket, a pink top, red sweatpants, white sneakers and a black backpack.

The suspect would be armed and dangerous. The police also offered a $ 20,000 reward that led to an arrest or conviction.

The police had previously stated that witnesses reported seeing a woman who left Chernoff's house before officers arrived and discovered his body, according to Philadelphia researcher.

6ABC reported that a 14-year-old girl was in custody on Thursday evening after being surrendered to the police while being accompanied by a lawyer.

A police spokesperson told the news station that no charges were filed.

It is unclear whether the 14-year-old girl is the same person that was seen in the surveillance video.

Chernoff is said to have had 11 cats, three turtles and two frogs in his house when he died. The animals were rescued by local animal welfare workers.

Friends told 6ABC that Chernoff was a motorcycle riding veteran who worked at Philadelphia International Airport.
