- Victoria Ellington, 36, and her husband Andrew, 40, discovered the ancient well.
A couple were stunned to find a secret 200-year-old well lying 27 feet underground after beginning renovations on their cabin.
Victoria Ellington, 36, and her husband Andrew, 40, discovered the old well when they were working on their property they bought during the pandemic.
The couple, from Redcar in North Yorkshire, decided to incorporate this distinctive element, which is believed to be centuries old, into the building rather than covering it.
It still contained crystal clear water, and after months of hard work, they managed to install a pump to create their own wishing well, covered in protective glass.

The couple even added a slot in the quirky water fountain to make wishes.
Mum-of-two Victoria said: ‘We bought the cottage during the 2020 Covid lockdown and Andrew, who is a builder, started renovating it.
‘We were planning to add an extension and build a family home, but the foundations started to slip and we knew something was up.
‘One day Andrew found this deep hole and realized it was a pretty deep hole right above the property, next to the front door.
‘I was digging in the foundation and all the dirt fell into this hole.
“He just sent me a picture and said, ‘Oh my God, have you seen this?’
“We then knew we couldn’t build an extension so Andrew decided to make it part of the building and we could rent the cottage out.”
Instead of paving the well, the couple covered it with a glass walkway and covered the walls of the well with lights.
Victoria said: ‘Our children were excited to have a wishing well so we thought we should make it happen.
Andrew tried to measure the well in the cabin; It is estimated to be around 27 feet deep.
The shaft is now covered in glass, allowing visitors to look to the bottom of the 27-foot hole.
‘We have placed lights on the walls of the well and the glass is hardened.
‘We can pump water into the well and we have a little slot for people to make wishes.
‘You can see to the bottom. Andrew tried measuring several times and I think it’s about 27 feet deep.
The couple completed the renovation earlier this month, with Victoria adding: “The well makes it a little bit different.” When I saw it I was totally impressed and every time I see it I love it.’
