A boy was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car trailer.

The horrific crash happened on Starthalbyn Way near Gingin, about 80 kilometres northeast of Perth, at around 4.30pm on Tuesday.

The boy, believed to be under 10 years old, suffered serious injuries after coming into contact with the trailer. Western Australia reported.

Emergency services, including DFES (Department of Fire and Emergency Services) crews, attended the scene.
