Animal activists have launched a petition demanding that a Utah man be investigated over footage of him spraying a feral cat with a water hose as “punishment.”
In a video widely circulated on social media, the man was seen holding a power station while the undomesticated black cat was locked inside a wire cage.
He was heard saying: “It’s time for him to receive his punishment” seconds before releasing a stream of water on the trapped animal as they tried to push the cage.
According to the Ogden man, the black feline had been showing up at his house and attacking his own cat for six months.
In a video widely circulated on social media, a northern Utah man was seen holding a power while the undomesticated black cat was locked inside a wire cage.
After the video went viral, cat lovers and activists launched Change.org. petition demanding that the man be investigated for animal abuse.
“Their potential to inflict so much terror and pain on a harmless creature is worrying and frightening,” he says.
‘The fact that he videotaped the abuse and posted it on Facebook saying the cat “deserved punishment” is alarming. Especially since he has a small child and a pet at home (according to the video).’
The petition’s creator also alleges that calls were made to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Services about the video, but no action was taken. They also claim that it is unclear whether the cat survived the attack and where he is now.
DailyMail.com contacted the Weber County Sheriff’s Office for comment.
The document has received 800 signatures of its goal of 1,000.
Kendra Nilsen, who runs an animal rescue in northern Utah, said she was horrified after seeing the video.
