Diallo was a bright spark for the visitors during the first half and thought he had given his team the perfect opportunity to score from the spot when Baba Rahman forced him to the ground inside the penalty area.

However, despite United’s penalty calls, the referee waved play on, causing an uproar among Red Devils fans who quickly took to social media to complain about the decision.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes appeared to sympathize with Diallo at half-time and admitted he had seen such challenges regularly.

He said: “I think there is a possibility, you can see why it could happen.” “It seems that there is contact there and if they went to VAR, I think there is a good chance that it will happen.”

TNT Sports presenter Jules Breach later clarified that VAR had verified the incident, but that officials opted to keep the original decision on the field.
