Fulham 1-1 Crystal Palace: Jeffrey Schlupp scores a late goal to rescue Oliver Glasner’s point and cancel out Rodrigo Muniz’s opener

For a team that can often be found on the beach at this time of year, Crystal Palace are nowhere near riding the crest of a wave.

The arrival of Oliver Glasner has turned what seemed doomed to be a season of stagnation into something much more exciting, and here, in a mid-table meeting with little at stake, Palace looked anything but unmotivated.

Although they had to settle for a draw at Craven Cottage – Jeffrey Schlupp’s superb equalizer canceled out Rodrigo Muniz’s opener for Fulham – Palace impressed by securing their tenth point in their last four games. They were skilful in possession, intense and with a little more composure in front of goal they could have run out comfortable winners.

Michael Olise and Chris Richards were most guilty of squandering promising opportunities as Palace failed to make their dominance count in the first half. That control came largely thanks to Adam Wharton, the 20-year-old at the heart of the midfield and almost everything positive they did here.

Fulham showed more after the break and took the lead with a header from Muniz, but it was no surprise that Palace fought back and Schlupp equalized in spectacular fashion, with two teams that have a lot to be positive about for next season and that did not they can be separated.

Palace were without star Eberechi Eze, who suffered a knee injury in their midweek win over Newcastle, while Tosin Adarabioyo, who will leave Craven Cottage as a free agent in a few months, was absent from the Fulham squad.

Palace started better and should have been ahead within six minutes. Wharton played in Olise, who had time and space inside the Fulham box and looked certain to score, but shot wide.

The visitors continued to probe and wanted a penalty when Daniel Muñoz fell in the area, but in reality the Colombian had forced contact. Referee Stuart Attwell (rest assured, Luton had no skin in the game here, Mr Marinakis) waved play on.

Jean-Philippe Mateta showed none of his recent goalscoring form as he saved a half-chance and Richards went close with a free-kick as Palace’s first goal looked increasingly inevitable.

But it didn’t come and after the break Fulham came back to life. In the 52nd minute, they passed the ball through midfield to Timothy Castagne on the right, whose precise cross meant Muniz had the easier task of scoring his ninth goal in 13 games.

That seemed to have secured Fulham three points, but Schlupp had other ideas: unleash an unstoppable shot from 25 yards into the top left corner of the net. It was the least deserved in the Palace.
