Four men have been arrested over the shooting deaths of two people at a beachside property in Rye, on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

Charlyze Hayter, 19, and Jackson Gilmour, 29, were allegedly murdered inside Gilmour’s home on Parson Street in Rye in the early hours of December 2.

Police arrested a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old man from Narre Warren, in Melbourne’s southeast, on Friday, as well as a 24-year-old man from Narre Warren South and a 28-year-old man from Narre Warren North.

Victoria Police said detectives would now interview the four men.

Investigations into the deaths of Ms Hayter and Mr Gilmour are ongoing.

Gilmour was sleeping inside the property on December 2 when Hayter and an unknown man armed with a rifle allegedly broke into the home shortly after 4 a.m.

Both Mr Gilmour and Ms Hayter were allegedly shot during a fight that followed.

Police were called to the home shortly after 4am on Monday, December 2, following reports of a loud fight between a group of people on the property.

Officers discovered Mr Gilmour and Mrs Hayter with critical gunshot wounds inside the home.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, they died at the scene.

Victoria Police said at the time that Gilmour and the two intruders knew each other and launched an extensive search for Hayter’s alleged accomplices, amid concerns there was a gunman on the loose.

Mr Gilmour, who was affectionately known as Jack to his friends, had lived on the Mornington Peninsula for more than 10 years.

The double death has shocked local residents of Rye, a wealthy coastal suburb 98 kilometers south of Melbourne, known for its beaches.
