Former NBA player and dunk contest winner Desmond Mason was jailed in Oklahoma

Former NBA player Desmond Mason was jailed in Oklahoma on Wednesday.

He was arrested just before noon on charges of contempt of court. He was released later that evening – at 9:34 pm – on a $50,000 bond.

Mason, 47, was taken in the first round of the 2000 NBA Draft and won the Slam Dunk Contest a year later.

Court documents revealed that the arrest was a result of his ongoing divorce case with his ex-wife, Andrea Mason, per TMZ.

The documents show that Mason failed to appear on court orders, leading to his arrest.

There was no statement on how Mason’s arrest affects his ongoing court case.

In 2001, Mason defeated stars Baron Davis and Corey Maggette to win the Slam Dunk Contest in Washington DC. Mason returned to the Slam Dunk contest in 2003, losing to Jason Richardson.

Mason last played in the NBA in 2009 during a brief stint with the Sacramento Kings.

In 2003, Mason was involved in a blockbuster trade that sent Gary Payton and himself to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Ray Allen and Ronald Murray.

That wouldn’t be the last time Mason would be traded in his career, as he would also be dealt to the Hornets and Thunder.

Since his retirement, Mason has kept a low profile, but he did appear on the reality TV show “Below Deck Mediterranean” in 2018.
