Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann called on CNN to fire Van Jones, one of its top political correspondents, for praising Trump’s strength and criticizing Biden’s weakness.
On Wednesday night, Van Jones appeared on a panel with other network political commentators to discuss the Republican National Convention and the election.
“Today is a terrible day,” the former Obama adviser said. “If you think about it, strength versus weakness is obvious. A bullet couldn’t stop Trump. A virus just stopped Biden.”
Jones’ comments referred to the attempted assassination of Trump on Saturday at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a shooter opened fire on the former president.

However, President Biden tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday, forcing him to cancel a campaign event in Las Vegas.
Jones, who served as Obama’s special adviser on green jobs, compared Trump’s strength to Biden’s weakness.
This led former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann to call on CNN to fire Jones for praising Trump.
Immediately after the shooting, Trump announced that despite his injury (a bullet went through his ear), the Republican National Convention would go ahead as scheduled.
“HELLO CNN,” Olbermann wrote on X.com in all caps. “Fire this moron/idiot/Trump sucker @VanJones68 TONIGHT. His remaining 837 viewers will accept nothing less.”
This is not the first time the former MSNBC host has focused his frustration on CNN.
Last month, after the debate, he recommended that the network be “burned down.”
“I’m literally suggesting that at some point tonight CNN should – it won’t – go off the air in shame, fire everybody, seal off the buildings, make sure everybody is out and burn the damn place to the ground,” he said.
Following the attempted assassination of Trump on Saturday, the former MSNBC host has written several posts on X.com questioning whether or not the Republican candidate was shot.
Olberman added that Jake Tapper and Dana Bash should face consequences for their role as debate moderators, saying they should be “fired for journalistic malpractice.”

He continued: “Five days later there is no confirmation, not even an anonymous statement, from law enforcement or a medical authority that he was hit by a bullet.”

After contrasting Trump’s strength with Biden’s weakness, Van Jones addressed the disunity within the Democratic Party.

“The candidates in this party are getting their asses kissed,” Jones said of the Republican Party.
“Biden is taking a beating from his own party,” he continued.
“The Democrats are disintegrating, the Republicans are uniting. That’s what’s happening.”
