The 69-year-old was found guilty by a jury in April of seven out of nine allegations of indecent assault committed in the early 1980s when his victim was between 13 and 15 years old.

Acting Judge Anthony Rafter on Friday has imprisoned Curran for two years and four months with a non-conditional release of 16 months.

He described the crimes as a & # 39; very serious breach of trust & # 39; and said that Curran exploited the vulnerability of his victim for his own sexual satisfaction.

Curran would sleep naked with the boy – which he his & # 39; little chicken & # 39; called – and would have a & # 39; ritual & # 39; every Saturday morning perform on him whereby he was massaged and his penis touched.

He took advantage of the boy whose father had died before and provided him with gifts, sailing trips and vacations to Europe. Some offenses occurred during a three-day boat trip.

Curran was considered a trusted friend of the family, while the victim said that Curran became a father figure to him.

In his victim impact statement, the middle-aged man said that the consequences of the abuse prevented him from leading the normal, productive, successful life he would otherwise have led.

& # 39; Although the physical actions were impossible to forget, the psychological manipulation of Graeme Curran turned out to be paralyzing & # 39 ;, he said.

& # 39; The stories and lies that were made to keep me silent and the resulting emotional disturbances of my late childhood left me a chronic sense of helplessness and changed the direction of my life monumental.

Curran was admitted as a lawyer in 1975 and as a lawyer in 1988. He was sworn in as a magistrate in 2002 and suspended after being charged in November 2017.

The judge said that Curran, who had now lost his career, was previously a good-natured person and noted that referees described him as a & # 39; person of honesty, generosity and of the highest integrity & # 39 ;.

Due to the nature of his offenses and his previous position, he should be kept in prison.

Although trapped for the first time at the age of 69 would undoubtedly be tough, the judge said that Curran could enjoy the first years of his life in the community & # 39 ;.
