A man is facing charges for stealing about $1.8 million worth of Hermes Birkin bags from a store at a Miami Beach hotel, police say.
Eduardo Travieso Garcia, 45, was arrested Tuesday on charges of grand larceny and masked burglary.
Officers reportedly responded to a call about a burglary shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday at the Maison Wrist Aficionado store at the Setai Hotel in Miami Beach.
Police found the front door of the high-end store open and the lock broken.
Eduardo Travieso Garcia, 45, was arrested Tuesday on charges of grand larceny and masked burglary.
Garcia and another man allegedly stole around 60 Hermes Birkin bags worth an estimated $1.8 million from a luxury hotel boutique.
The burglary took place around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning at the upscale Setai Hotel in Miami Beach.
The bags can sell for between $20,000 and $35,000 each, although rarer models can cost much more.
Garcia allegedly provided a full confession to police and was incarcerated.
The place was also reportedly ransacked.
Security camera footage showed a man getting out of a large van and walking towards the entrance before breaking the lock and returning to the van.
Another man then got out of the van and approached the store with a large gray trash can. The first man then returned with another trash can.
The men were then seen on camera fleeing with the trash cans filled to the brim with handbags – each worth tens of thousands of dollars.
The men fled the scene in two separate vehicles, one of which was stolen and the other of which was linked to a burglary earlier this month on the other side of the state.
The head of security at the luxury hotel told police that the two men had stolen around 60 Hermes Birkins, worth more than $1.8 million.
The bags cost around $10,000 and resell for between $20,000 and $35,000 each depending on condition, leathers and color combinations. Models made from exotic skins can sell for much more.
Officers found the second vehicle, which led them to Garcia later Tuesday.
The man reportedly provided a full confession and was incarcerated.
It is unclear if the second suspect has been apprehended.
