The incident occurred in May when Zoey noticed her mother becoming unresponsive at home. Zoey immediately dialed 911.and calmly told the dispatcher, “Um, I was in my room watching TV and my mom just passed out. Can you come quickly? “I already called my poppy and my grandmother.” Their composure and quick action ensured that help arrived quickly.

Jessica Reddick, who has a history of seizures, was stunned when she later learned from first responders that her kindergarten-age daughter had been the one who had called for help. “I was in total shock, like, ‘Who called 911?’” Jessica recalled. “And they said, ‘Your daughter.’ And I couldn’t believe it.” Grateful for her daughter’s bravery, Jessica now calls Zoey her “super Zoey” and her hero.

Zoey shared how she managed to stay calm during the stressful situation. “I took 10 deep breaths… 10 deep breaths, so I calmed down,” he explained. Despite feeling panicked, Zoey maintained her composure during the five minutes she spent on the phone, providing essential details to the operator.

Zoey even shared her mother’s name, date of birth, and age, although she didn’t know her last name. Dispatchers were able to use the information to cross-reference and determine your address. Zoey’s grandfather arrived just before the paramedics and offered additional support.

Nearly five months after the incident, Zoey was honored by the Skokie Police Department for her bravery. His mother, now fully recovered, expressed her deep gratitude. “She is literally a blessing,” Jessica said. “There are no words to describe how proud her father and I are of her. She is my hero. She is my life, my little heroine in the form of a girl. And I will be eternally grateful for her.”

Zoey’s quick thinking and calmness under pressure serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of teaching children what to do in an emergency. Without a doubt, his actions that day saved his mother’s life and the community is proud of their young hero.
