Dating someone from the past?

I haven’t had any long-term relationships. I haven’t really put in the time to get to know anyone, so I’ve only been on a few dates with friends of friends, and they haven’t come to anything.

Pre-date jitters?

A little bit… there was a moment when I was sitting alone in the restaurant and I wondered if he would appear.

First impressions?

When he walked in, he reminded me of another man I met, in a good way. Sultan has a good presence and it’s obvious that he likes fashion. His outfit was very well put together and attractive, so I was hoping we would have a good time.

Easy to talk to?

We had a lot in common because I act and he does a bit of modeling. The first hour of our date was spent mostly talking about the “industry” and how people fall for scams, like when photographers ask for too much money to do a portfolio of model photos.

He also asked me what my “intentions” were for the date and I didn’t really understand what he meant, unless he meant: do I want a relationship out of this?

I get the feeling he’s very goal-oriented. I’m a Libra, so I tend to go with the flow, but he’s very disciplined, probably a Virgo.

Sultan was very polite, but he spoke very softly, and there were times when I had to lean in very close to hear what he was saying. Maybe it was nerves.

I did most of the talking, but he asked me questions like what fashion and makeup brands I like. I wasn’t quite sure how to take those questions – was he saying I should try a different brand? I’m not sure.

Embarrassing moments?

Not really. He talked a lot about cartoons and although I used to watch them as a kid, I don’t watch them now and I thought that was a bit weird on a first date.

It was a little awkward, but not really embarrassing.

Did sparks fly?

It’s not for me. At one point, I felt like I was hanging out with a friend, which isn’t bad at all.

Do you see it again?

He followed me on Instagram at the end of the date, but I don’t know if I’ll message him again. I think we should stay on friendly terms.

What do you think he thought of you?

He seemed quite shy, but was clearly interested and engaged in the conversation.

Would your family like it?

I won’t be introducing him to my family in the near future.

SULTAN, 24 YEARS OLD

No, I haven’t been in any relationships in the past. In fact, this is the first time I’ve gone on a formal date.

I’m quite shy and I’ve been very focused on my work.

Plus, I’ve been waiting to meet the right person.

Pre-date jitters?

I was a little nervous. I wondered if she would like me and if she would be easy to talk to.

First impressions?

My first impression was that she was stunning: her eyes were bright, her smile was welcoming, and her face was radiant.

She was wearing a beautiful dress and honestly, she was like the woman I had been waiting for my entire life.

I extended my hand, not wanting to be too forward, and we introduced ourselves, but we felt very comfortable.

Easy to talk to?

We talked for over three hours until we had to leave the restaurant. Time flew by. We both love the same TV shows and movies, like Money Heist and Harry Potter.

We both like to cook too, although Kheira admits that her mother does most of the cooking. We talk about our childhood: she has a brother and a sister, and I have a twin sister and older brothers too.

We even discovered that we liked watching the same cartoons when we were kids.

Embarrassing moments?

No, we were both very relaxed and completely comfortable in each other’s company.

Did sparks fly?

I think she’s awesome, but it’s too early to tell.

Do you see her again?

I didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable by asking for her number directly, but we exchanged social media profiles and I’ll keep in touch.

What do you think he thought of you?

I think Kheira liked me. She later admitted that she had a few excuses ready for how she could leave if she didn’t like me, such as saying she was feeling sick.

But she said I seemed like a “nice guy.” I walked her to the train station and we said goodbye, but I didn’t want the date to end.

Would your family like it?

I showed some pictures to my family and told them about this lovely girl I had just met.

They really liked the sound of it.
