While the 2026 World Cup is highly anticipated, the logo unveiled by Fifa for the tournament on Wednesday is already being criticized by fans.
At an unveiling in Los Angeles, soccer’s governing body unveiled the official logo for the competition hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
And FIFA has kept it simple, as the design features a two stacked over a six and the World Cup trophy overlaid on top of them.
Fans were quick to criticize the threadbare design of the tournament, which kicks off in just over three years.
‘Not a very impressive logo, especially from a designer’s point of view…it’s okay. Mediocre at best,” a Twitter user said.
“Would have looked better if all the other logos weren’t so iconic, both artistically and symbolically.

Fans were quick to criticize the tournament’s worn design on social media
Another fan had an interesting theory.
‘Okay, I’ll say it. Someone forgot to ask someone to design a logo and they asked an AI robot to do this c**p, ‘they said. “You can’t get one out of us.
While fans were quick to criticize the logo, this is the first time the image of the trophy has been used in a logo for the World Cup.
Each of the 16 host cities will also have their own branding with unique colors and style, FIFA has announced.
But fans weren’t exactly focused on the positives.
‘That’s it? A PNG image of the Over 26 Trophy. Anemic, another said.

The logo was displayed against different background colors in a video by Fox Soccer, which is a FIFA broadcast partner for the tournament.

Brooklyn Beckham, son of English icon David Beckham, was among the starters for the event
“It’s very bland and rather lame”, another supporter concluded on Twitter. “The tournament is held in all three North American countries and this logo does not represent any of them.”
The competition itself, which will feature 48 teams for the first time, will be the first World Cup in North America since 1994 and will put soccer on a massive stage in the region.
‘[This tournament] will be beyond imagination’, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said during the launch event.
The same cannot be said for its logo.
The logo launch event was hosted by former USMNT defender Alexi Lalas and Telemundo journalist Ana Jurka.
Football and non-football showed up at the event with Brazilian legend Ronaldo and USWNT hero Carli Lloyd spotted on the red carpet.

Brooklyn Beckham, son of England icon and Inter Miami owner David Beckham, and Kelly Osbourne were also present.
Meanwhile, Cristo Fernandez, who is known for his role as footballer Dani Rojas on Apple TV show Ted Lasso but was a former La Liga Premier de Mexico player, was also pictured.
As well as co-hosting the 2026 World Cup, the United States will also host the 2024 Copa America, with its national team competing in the tournament to gain much-needed experience ahead of the World Cup.
The United States and Mexico are also launching a bid to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
