Ezekiel Elliott will reportedly join the Los Angeles Chargers ahead of their playoff campaign.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott will sign with the Los Angeles Chargers after being released by the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys released the 29-year-old on New Year’s Eve before their Week 18 game against the Washington Commanders.

However, just a week after his release, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the AFC West power acquired Elliott ahead of their postseason push.

Rapoport reported that the Chargers are signing Elliot to their practice squad, adding that they “expect him to get up to speed quickly.”

In a statement about his release, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Elliott was waived to allow him the playoff experience he wasn’t getting with Dallas.

“Out of respect and appreciation for Zeke and a desire to give him the opportunity to pursue any potential playoff participation, we have released him from the Cowboys’ roster,” Jones’ statement read.

‘As I have said many times before, Zeke’s impact as one of the greatest to ever play with the star on his helmet will never change and will be etched in our record books and our history forever. We thank you, we love you and we wish you the best.’

Dallas’ 7-10 season ended with a 23-19 loss to the Commanders and they missed the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

On the other hand, the Chargers finished with an 11-6 record and earned fifth place in the AFC. They will face the Texans in a wild card game on January 11.

Elliot returned to Dallas this season after a one-year stint with the New England Patriots. The Cowboys selected him with the fourth overall pick in 2016, and he spent his first seven NFL seasons there.

The three-time Pro Bowler and two-time rushing champion rushed for 266 yards and three touchdowns on 74 carries this season.

Elliot will make the postseason for the fifth time in his career, hoping to be elevated to the Chargers’ active roster.
