A hiker who spent almost a fortnight lost in Kosciuszko National Park sought refuge in a hut while surviving on water and just two granola bars.
Melbourne student Hadi Nazari, 23, broke away from his friends to take photographs along the Hannels Spur Trail between Khancoban and Thredbo in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales on Boxing Day.
He spent 13 days in the bush until he saw a group of hikers passing by on Wednesday afternoon and called them, explaining that he was lost and thirsty.
As paramedics took Mr. Nazari to safety and evaluated him, authorities revealed incredible details of his survival.
“One of my police officers at the scene had spoken to him and he told him that he found a cabin in the mountains and there were two granola bars there,” Superintendent Andrew Spliet said.
‘That’s pretty much all he’s had to consume for the last two weeks.
More details about where it has been and how it has actually been cared for have yet to be determined.
“The police will speak to him, hopefully tomorrow, just to let him know about his experience in the bush and what happened.”
Young hiker Hadi Nazari, 23, was found alive and well 13 days after he went missing in New South Wales’ Kosciuszko National Park on Boxing Day.

Nazari (pictured while reuniting with his family) survived on just two muesli bars for 13 days.

Mr. Nazari was found by hikers who were not part of the search party (pictured, hikers sat Mr. Nazari down while waiting to be winched out).
Supt Splitet said it was “fantastic news” for all agencies involved in the search.
“It was something that the team, the police and the other organizations that were there put a lot of time and a lot of effort into trying to achieve a successful outcome.”
“So hearing on the radio that he has been located is fantastic news.”
Superintendent Splitet added that Mr Nazari’s previous hiking experience and general health probably helped him survive the ordeal.
“We really just want to know what he’s really done,” he said.
‘Have you rested in the shade during the day, have you found walking paths that you have been able to follow?
‘…He has done very well.’
Nazari, a neurosurgeon student from Melbourne, was found by hikers, who were not part of the search party, at 3.15pm, about 20 kilometers from the main police command post in Geehi.

Nazari identified himself as a missing hiker and told the group he was “thirsty,” prompting the hikers to call emergency services.
The 23-year-old identified himself as a missing hiker and told the group he was “thirsty,” prompting the hikers to call emergency services.
‘They called some hikers who were in the area, he told them that he had gotten lost in the mountains and that he was thirsty. “Then those people contacted the emergency services,” Superintendent Splitet said.
‘…He will be taken to an area hospital to be checked and make sure he is fit and in good health.
“I can inform you that he has been reunited with his family, who are very happy to have him back and very pleased with the efforts of the police and other organizations who assisted in this operation.”
On Tuesday, police shared a discovery that fueled hope that Nazari was alive.
Searches found a camera, a camera case and a lighter next to the remains of a small campfire on Sunday.
Riverina Police District Inspector Josh Broadfoot thanked the more than 300 people who joined the search for the hiker over the past fortnight.
“This is an incredible result, after 13 long days it has been located,” he said.

More than 300 people from multiple agencies participated in the 13-day search for Mr. Nazari
