Jack Grealish is expected to be unavailable for up to three weeks after suffering a groin injury in Manchester City’s midweek Champions League win over Copenhagen, according to reports.

The 28-year-old limped off during the first half at the Parken Stadium, despite doing his best to stay on the pitch before admitting he could not continue.

It was clear that the England international was suffering from a muscle injury and he has been given a period of two to three weeks to recover, according to reports The Telegraph.

That schedule would see Grealish available just in time for England’s upcoming international friendlies against Brazil and Belgium starting on March 23.

Grealish pounded the grass with his fists during City’s European victory, trying to continue playing after first noticing the problem and had to leave 90 seconds later.

City manager Pep Guardiola offered words of comfort on the bench as a distraught Grealish headed towards the tunnel for treatment.

The schedule attached to his rehabilitation will be good news for City fans and for the player himself, who has struggled to match last season’s performances.

There were initially fears that the former winger would not be available for a much longer period with City still competing in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

Tuesday’s 3-1 away win over Copenhagen was the first time Guardiola had chosen Grealish to start in more than a month.

The arrival of Jeremy Doku in the summer has largely forced him out of his starting role and frustration has been growing after Grealish starred for City in their treble-winning campaign last season.

There are also doubts over his place in England’s upcoming European Championship squad as Gareth Southgate prepares to name his squad for the tournament.

Grealish has been a key figure in the Three Lions camp over the last two major tournaments and is expected to feature again, but may have to settle for a place as an impact substitute.
