A California family was left terrified after a hidden camera disguised as a rock was discovered pointing at their home.

The device, hidden in the dirt next to a sidewalk, was found by the apparent target’s neighbor, James Dimapasok, who said he and his family are baffled as to why anyone would want to record them.

“I was afraid,” he said. KTLA. “My wife was crying.”

After reporting the camera to the police, Dimapasok discovered he could download the camera’s video and caught a glimpse of the perpetrator.

Footage downloaded from the camera showed the suspect shaking dirt to hide the camera, wearing gardening gloves, a blue shirt and a bicycle helmet.

The perpetrator rode a scooter to and from the scene, which Dimapasok feared had been purposely placed outside his home, possibly to detect a robbery.

“It was a clay-covered chamber that looked like a rock, so it was very precise,” he said.

The resident added that he discovered that it was powered by a wireless power bank, meaning the camera had to remain there for some time.

Police told Dimapasok that the camera was transmitting from local cell phone towers and was potentially being used as a live feed of the neighborhood.

In searching for the perpetrator, Dimapasok also checked his Ring doorbell camera, which captured another angle of the planted camera, but it was too far away for a clearer description.

When asked why anyone would want to film his street, Dimapasok said he didn’t know anything.

“I don’t know,” he said. ‘I really do not know.’

The camera was pointed directly at Dimapasok's home, raising fears that it was being used to inspect his home.

“A lot of them do, especially on that street,” he said. “I’m almost worried that maybe they’re watching a particular child.”

Dimapasok said he is beefing up his home security system while the case remains under investigation by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department.

In a message to the suspect, he said: “I don’t have any money… So whatever you do, whether it’s money or whatever, I don’t have anything and I don’t know why you’re doing it.” Only for.’
