English women are poised to give a test debut to a distant relative of one of cricket’s voices.
Emily Arlott has come out of nowhere to be included in England’s 17-man squad to face India in their first test in two years in Bristol next week.
The fast bowler believes there is a family connection to legendary broadcaster and writer John Arlott.

“It’s never been confirmed, but I’m pretty sure there is a connection as much of my family is from Hampshire,” said Arlott, 23.
“We have some of his books at home and we know him well. We just never looked at the family connection.’
Arlott, who won a hat-trick for Central Sparks in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy last weekend, added: “I’ve kind of gone under the radar just playing county cricket and I don’t think anyone had heard of me before. this season.
“I’m one of the first to be selected for England by the RHF Trophy, but hopefully I won’t be the last.”
