Cavani impressed many in his first season at Old Trafford, after joining as a free agent when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired.

Over the course of the campaign, he scored 17 goals in 39 games in all competitions.

There was some talk that the Uruguayan would not renew his one-year contract and would instead play abroad in Argentina.

However, the club was determined to keep him and Cavani for an extra year.

He beat seven other contenders for the prize, including Danny Welbeck against Brighton, Ferran Torres against Newcastle, Luke Thomas and Bertrand Traore against Manchester United, Phil Foden against Brighton and Stephen Bergwijn against Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, on loan from Arsenal at Newcastle, Joe Willock was awarded the Player of the Month for May after an impressive goal-scoring run to close the season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was named Manager of the Month after five consecutive wins catapulted them to the Champions League positions.
