Excited fans preparing to attend an Ed Sheeran concert have been left shocked after a shirtless man was knocked to the ground by police.

The man was handcuffed just before 7pm on Tuesday night outside the Southern Plaza at Adelaide Oval in front of a bevy of fangirls.

In dramatic footage of the altercation, the man can be heard saying he has done nothing wrong as up to six police officers escort him from the main entrance.

A police spokesman told Daily Mail Australia the man was arrested for disorderly conduct and taken to hospital for drunkenness.

The man appeared to be bleeding from a cut on his elbow.

Ed Sheeran will perform in front of 60,000 fans at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday night, exactly five years to the date he last performed in 2018.

The British pop icon donned a yellow hoodie when he landed in Adelaide and posed with fans who crowded for photos at the airport.

The 32-year-old visited Women’s and Children’s Hospital for a surprise show for patients and his family, using only his voice and guitar, The Advertiser reports.

He told reporters that being able to make someone laugh was a powerful gift.

“Who am I to say I shouldn’t use that every day,” he said.

“I talked to my wife about it, it’s like, if you have the ability to do that, it should be used because you get it for a reason.

“It’s not just to help me, to have a good time at these shows… I just hope it makes people happy.”

The beloved musician has already played shows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, where he wore a pride flag.

On Sunday, March 12, he will complete his tour of Australia in Perth.
