Just before having a big performance in the Elite Eight, Duke basketball star Jared McCain signed a contract with a nail polish company.
McCain, who signed an NIL deal with Sally Hansen, has been showing up on the Blue Devils court with painted nails all season.
In a video posted to TikTok on Friday, McCain performed her routine, showing fans as she painted the nails on her left hand blue for her school as she prepared for her Sweet 16 matchup against Houston.
McCain said painting her nails is a way to have some “self-care time, I think everyone should take care of themselves.”
‘For me, that’s painting nails. I’m sorry if that offends any of you.’

McCain dropped seven points, six rebounds and four assists in an upset win over Houston.
She then explained why she started painting her nails and how it brings her joy.
‘There’s no crazy reason for it: it helps me not bite my nails. I once went to a salon and decided to pick a color and I thought it looked good.
‘I know many people disagree; many people don’t like it. But I’ll be myself and do what I think looks good.
‘One of the reasons I kept painting my nails is because I had a game after I painted my nails and I ended up playing really well. I’m not very superstitious, but I thought it looked cool, I thought it would help me play better.
“So far it’s worked, so I guess I’ll keep doing it.”
In a very defensive Sweet 16 game, the Blue Devils stunned the Houston Cougars 54-51 to advance to the Elite Eight for the 24th time.
McCain dropped seven points on a 3-for-6 shooting line with six rebounds and four assists to boot.
Now, they will play rival North Carolina State on Sunday, a team they lost to in the first round of the ACC Tournament, but beat earlier in the season, for a chance to reach the Final Four.
