The Los Angeles Dodgers placed All-Star pitcher Tyler Glasnow on the 15-day injured list because of back soreness on Tuesday.

Manager Dave Roberts told reporters Before Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Glasnow said his back “took hold on Sunday” while playing catch. The move to the disabled list will be retroactive, and Roberts expects Glasnow to return shortly after the All-Star break.

“I don’t know when it will start after the break, but it shouldn’t be too long after the second half,” Roberts said.

Glasnow, 30, was named to his first career All-Star Game on Sunday. He will miss next Tuesday’s All-Star Game because he is resting his back.

The Dodgers recalled pitcher Michael Petersen from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move.

Glasnow is on pace to surpass the highest workload of his career in his ninth MLB season. In 18 starts, he has thrown 109 innings this season. Before this year, his career-high for a full season was 120 innings in 21 starts last season for the Tampa Bay Rays.

The veteran leads the National League with 143 strikeouts and boasts a 3.47 ERA and .927 WHIP. He is the National League leader in strikeouts per nine innings (11.8) and hits allowed per nine innings (5.9).

Glasnow underwent Tommy John surgery in 2021 and missed most of the 2022 season. He returned in 2023 for the most productive season of his career.

Glasnow is headed to the injured list as three-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw works toward making his season debut with the Dodgers after recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. Kershaw pitched two innings of a simulated game Sunday and is expected to make a rehab start in the coming days.
