TikTok’s algorithms can be very astute when it comes to the types of videos you want to see in your For You feed. But if it doesn’t work, you may end up with a steady stream of the type of video you really don’t want to deal with.
I’m not just talking about something blatant – like political, religious or social statements, for example, that you might think are completely contrary to your beliefs. I’m also talking about videos that you might just find annoying, like some kind of music you don’t like, or some kind of humor that doesn’t suit you. For example, for some reason, I suddenly found myself sifting through some videos of so-called fortune tellers giving advice to their commentators. I real didn’t need to see it.
So what can you do?
Well, it turns out that you can really “dislike” TikTok videos – or at least you can tell TikTok you’re not interested in them, and so (hopefully) adjust the algorithm to not let you see other videos like this to see.
- Long press the video you don’t like.
- You’ll get a pop-up menu that allows you to save the video, favorite it, report it (if you find it really offensive), or say you’re just not interested. In this case, tap “Not interested”.
- You’ll then be given a choice to hide videos from that user or hide videos that use that sound (if you’re just tired of a particular audio track).
And hopefully it will be. By the way, you can also long-press on live videos that you don’t like; in that case you will immediately be given the choice to say you are not interested or to report the video.
