The teenager hit and killed by a stolen BMW was planning to propose to his girlfriend later that day.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Bell Street and Victoria Street in Preston, in Melbourne’s north, early Sunday morning following reports that a BMW had struck a motorcycle.

Police arrived at the scene and performed CPR on the seriously injured 19-year-old Davide Pollina, who died at the scene, despite desperate attempts to save his life.

Police believe two occupants of the BMW allegedly fled the scene.

Polina’s girlfriend, Sylvana Kassab, was traveling in the same car as him at the time and witnessed the accident and his heartbreaking final moments.

She has since been told that he planned to pop the question later on Sunday.

“I was told he had planned to propose to me on the day he died, however his life was cut short too soon and I didn’t get the chance to say the easier yes I could have,” Kassab told Seven News.

‘We had planned a lot for the future, however, the precious memories we shared will never be lost on me.’

‘I can never get over this, from life to death he was my person, he will always be my forever.

Mr. Pollina’s best friend is also devastated.

“I know he’s in a better place and he’s up there watching me and I’m very grateful to him and what he’s done for me,” Youssef Soueid said.

Police allege the BMW and a Mazda were stolen from a home on Coonans Road, Pascoe Vale South, at about 11.40pm on Saturday night, an hour before the collision.

Shortly afterwards, a 16-year-old boy was arrested and interviewed by detectives before being released pending further enquiries. No charges have been brought against him.

The other occupant remains at large.

Investigations into the accident are continuing.

This comes after Mr Pollina’s grieving parents issued a heartbreaking plea to those who were in the BMW at the time of the crash to come forward to police.

Colleagues at the concrete company also paid tribute to “one of the best.”

At their former workplace, the entire team was lifted into the air as a final salute.

TO GoFundMe Organised on behalf of Davide’s family, it said he “was travelling home on his motorcycle… when he was suddenly hit by a (presumably) stolen vehicle”.

“Davide was only 19 years old and had a full life ahead of him,” reads the fundraising announcement.
