David Morrow: Football pays emotional tribute to legendary commentator ahead of State of Origin... but idiotic fan ruins touching moment with three-word comment

David Morrow was given a fair shake ahead of the State of Origin on Wednesday night.

The NRL Hall of Fame commentator has passed away aged 71 after a battle with brain cancer, and football has come together to pay tribute to the commentator who was adored by millions.

Both New South Wales and Queensland observed a minute’s silence before the start of the crucial Origin decider at Suncorp Stadium.

But one fan interrupted the touching moment by apparently shouting “come on baby” during the silence.

“Whoever just yelled ‘go critta’ during that moment of silence for David Morrow should be punched in the face repeatedly, that disrespectful bastard,” one fan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Another fan said: “There’s always that one idiot in the crowd who can’t stay silent.”

“WHO JUST SCREAMED FOR A MINUTE OF SILENCE?” posted a third fan.

But aside from that interruption, it was a beautifully observed and befitting tribute to Morrow’s contribution to the game.

His former colleague, radio host Ray Hadley, broke the sad news on his 2GB show on Wednesday.

“I’ve worked with a lot of people for a long time in the broadcasting world. There’s no more versatile sportscaster than David Morrow,” Hadley said after revealing that Morrow died around midnight Tuesday, surrounded by his family.

‘He will be missed by all.’
