Dave Hughes has claimed that actor Samuel Johnson stole a film role that was originally intended for him.

The 53-year-old comedian dropped the explosive revelation during his radio show on Friday morning, explaining how he was supposed to be cast in the 2002 Australian comedy Crackerjack, starring and written by Mick Molloy.

During a chat with Johnson, 46, on 2DAY FM’s Hughesy, Ed & Erin show, Hughesy made the astonishing claim that Johnson’s role as Dave Jackson was initially written for him.

“He (Johnson) got the role that was written for me,” Hughesy revealed.

‘I thought I had written it down in my diary. At that time I had many corporate jobs. I didn’t take any corporate job because I was playing that role.

Johnson backed Hughesy’s claim, noting that Molloy had no plans for him to play the role.

“Mick even called the character Dave, he didn’t intend for me to be there,” Johnson said.

However, Samuel explained that the producers influenced the casting decision.

“Sue Masters made it very clear to Mick that you were not going to play the role and that someone from Channel Ten was going to play it,” Johnson continued.

“And I ended up playing Dave for political and financial reasons.”

Hughesy, who was working for ABC at the time, revealed that despite Channel 10 banning him from the film, they hired him the following year.

The comedian co-hosted the AFL’s Saturday night show Before The Game alongside Molloy, Anthony Lehmann, Andy Maher and Neroli Meadow on the 10th.
