Dave Grohl’s ex-girlfriend Tina Basich has opened up about her tumultuous relationship with the Foo Fighters singer in her 2003 memoir, noting how his infidelity brought about an abrupt end to their romance, amid recent news that the rock icon fathered a child out of wedlock.
Basich, 55, a standout snowboarder who has won at the X Games, was in a relationship with Grohl, 55, for about two years beginning in the late 1990s.
The Sacramento, California-born athlete detailed the ill-fated relationship in her 2003 book. Pretty Good for a Girl: The Autobiography of a Snowboarding Pioneerand added that she learned he had been secretly seeing another woman while they were dating.
Basich said in his memoirs: ‘I don’t know how someone in his profession could have a normal relationship with a girlfriend… or two, as it turned out.
“I heard about it secondhand, through rumors, when it seemed like everyone in the world knew except me.”

Basich said in the book that she was “very disappointed… to have been dragged” into the affair with the famous musician.
Basich said Grohl, who was Nirvana’s drummer before forming Foo Fighters, was very abrupt in his split from her, which occurred while she was recovering from a broken leg.
“Breakups suck,” Basich said. “But Rockstar departures are the worst. All I got was a five-minute phone call from him, after five weeks of calling him and trying to get in touch with him because I just had to know if those rumors were true and I had to hear it straight from the source.”
Basich said Grohl admitted “nothing” and quickly “disappeared off the planet” from her life while being “everywhere” amid his band’s continued success.
Basich explained how hard the split was for her, as she “couldn’t escape the thought” of Grohl after his abrupt breakup with her.
“I went shopping a few days after we broke up and heard the elevator music version of Learn to Fly, which gave me an instant stomach ache,” she said, “then I saw him on the cover of Guitar magazine staring at me in the checkout line.”
Basich said she “didn’t know how to handle” the painful split as she felt she “wasn’t that strong” at the time.
She added: “You can only give up so much of your heart, your career, your time and your spirit, and there I was, giving it all up for a man and losing myself in the process.”

“I recently became the father of a new daughter, born out of wedlock,” Grohl said. “I plan to be a loving and understanding father to her. I love my wife and children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.
“We are grateful for your consideration for all the children involved as we move forward together.”
Grohl did not comment further on the identity of the mother.
Grohl and Blum married in 2003. He had previously been married to photographer Jennifer Leigh Youngblood from 1994 to 1997.
Grohl formed Foo Fighters in 1994, the year of Kurt Cobain’s suicide, which ended Nirvana. Foo Fighters drummer and Grohl confidant Taylor Hawkins died at age 50 in March 2022 while the band was on tour in Colombia.
