Against the Storm is available on Steam for the best price ever.
About half a year ago, Against the Storm entered Early Access on Steam and immediately won the hearts of construction and city builder fans. The gloomy dark fantasy strategy game is convincing both in the GameStar test and in the Steam User Reviews, 95 percent of the more than 9,000 user ratings are positive.
The title is now available at a reduced price for the first time – we’ll explain what it’s about and whether the game might be something for you.
That’s what the building game surprise is all about
At first glance, Against the Storm (Here is the link to the game on Steam) like a classic building game in the style of Anno 1800, even if the graphic style is much more reminiscent of the real-time strategy classic Warcraft 3.
The best way to see them is in the gameplay trailer:

Against the Storm – In this roguelite city building game, a forest is your biggest enemy
As Viceroy, you must build a thriving settlement in an apocalyptic world where the acid rain never stops. As is typical in development games, you first build industrial buildings such as farms, sawmills and brickworks in order to collect raw materials.
However, there is a nasty and extremely menacing twist: At regular intervals, the rain turns into a real storm and you have to fight for the survival of your villagers and the entire settlement. For example, huts protect your inhabitants, large stoves and enough fuel provide warmth and bulging pantries should not be missing when the storm washes the harvest from the fields.
This might sound a bit stressful for laid-back builders, but it’s always fair and an exciting challenge – and in return you don’t have to deal with actual combat against attacking enemies.
If the storm should wipe out your settlement – no problem! Against the Storm is a roguelite strategy game, so failure is part of it. So you can start over in a new area, and once you’ve unlocked new perks, the next run-through will be just that little bit easier.
If you like building games but find fighting nature too stressful for you, this week we also have some cool building games where you don’t have to fight for survival.
Against the Storm is currently reduced to 15 euros, the offer is valid until April 27, 2023. If you still need a title to bridge the waiting time for potential city-building hits like Frostpunk 2 or Cities: Skylines 2, the game could be worth a look.
