Dak Prescott ‘agrees to restructure contract’ with Cowboys, with quarterback’s cap hit reduced to $55million as Dallas police investigate claims of sexual assault against him

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has reportedly agreed to slightly restructure his contract, bringing his 2024 cap hit to a still-hefty $55 million.

Prescott, who has been the team’s starter since 2016, earned MVP buzz with his play last regular season before Dallas was ousted in the first round of the playoffs by the Packers.

Now, according to ESPNPrescott’s $5 million bonus converts to a signing bonus, reducing the passer’s cap hit by $4 million.

The contract overhaul included the addition of two additional voidable years in 2027 and 2028, which caused Prescott’s salary cap hit to increase slightly in 2025 to $40 million.

The Cowboys can provide further salary cap relief with an extension for Prescott, who is coming off a home loss to Green Bay that dropped his playoff record to 2-5.

While Jerry Jones said the club plans to keep Prescott, the team owner and general manager did not strike the same definitive tone he did in 2021 before signing his franchise QB to a record $160 million over four years.

The 81-year-old franchise owner was asked at the NFL Combine about the possibility that this upcoming season could be Prescott’s last in Dallas.

“No, I’m not afraid of that,” Jones said ESPN. “Well, because I decided to be better than last year. And that’s where the emphasis would be.

“Every player you have has a certain amount of time at the end of his contract. You would walk around with the shakes if you were afraid of them. You can’t because they’re all coming. They can all get hurt. They can all lose talent.

The restructuring comes less than a week after Dallas police confirmed they were investigating sexual assault allegations against the Cowboys quarterback.

The lawyer for the woman accusing Prescott has vowed to file criminal charges and take legal action against the Cowboys quarterback, who previously sued them over an alleged $100 million extortion plot in answer.

Victoria Baleigh Shores accuses Prescott of sexually assaulting her in the back of an SUV in 2017 after his rookie NFL season.

Prescott has not been charged with any crime in this case.
