The Mali international is expected to sign a five-year deal with Patrick Viera’s side after impressing the Palace manager with his performances for Lens last season as they finished seventh in Ligue 1 in their second season back at the top of the table. French football.

Palace were rejected last week on their opening offer of £14.5million, but have increased their offer to match Lens’ valuation and are now approaching their target.

Doucoure’s Lens contract runs until 2024, so Lens won’t be forced to sell, but the deal is too good for Franck Haise’s side to turn down.

The midfielder made 34 appearances last season, with one goal and four assists, and formed an excellent midfield partnership with the much sought-after Seko Fofana.

In total, he made 134 appearances for Lens and was also capped eight times by Mali at international level.

Doucoure would mark the third arrival of the summer for Crystal Palace and Patrick Viera, who are looking to build on last season’s comfortable 12th place in the league and the FA Cup semi-finals.

They have made the transfers of former Derby County winger Malcolm Ebiowei on a five-year contract and England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone free of charge.

The Eagles have also tied stalwarts James McArthur and James Tomkins to one-year extensions.
