A vile child rapist who ignored his victim’s tears as he repeatedly raped her before recording his attacks has been jailed for 25 years.
George Bellwood’s abuse left his victim wanting to die after he filmed his deplorable sexual attacks.
The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to all charges, but not until he forced his young victim to be questioned before his impending trial date.
Durham Crown Court heard how Bellwood’s violent sexual abuse had left the victim suffering medical problems and left her in tears, which did not stop the assaults.
Jonathan Walker, prosecuting, said the truth came to light when the boy plucked up the courage to speak to his teacher and several videos of the sexual abuse were found on the defendant’s digital devices.
In a victim impact statement, the boy’s mother laid bare the suffering and pain they had endured at the hands of Bellwood.
She said her daughter now had difficulty regulating her emotions and regularly said she wanted to be dead.
Bellwood, of Zetland Street, Darlington, pleaded guilty to rape of a child under 13, sexual assault of a child under 13, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, making indecent images of a child, distribution of an indecent image of a child and possession of extreme pornography.
George Bellwood repeatedly abused a young boy and filmed his attacks. He has been imprisoned for 25 years.
Sentencing Bellwood, Judge Jo Kidd said: ‘(The victim) was subjected to the most appalling, monstrous and violent abuse by you.
‘The matter came to light when they told their teacher what had happened. The boy said, “It makes me sad and stressed and I wish I was dead.”
Judge Kidd added: “(The victim’s) tears provoked no reflection or deterrence on her part.”
She told Bellwood she believed he was only delaying entering his guilty pleas for all the crimes in the hope that his victim would not be able to attend court and present evidence against him.
—You cynically withheld his statements in this case to see if they were good enough to be cross-examined. On each occasion you have carried the themes of your supplications to the end.
“Obviously, at some point you had to plead guilty to crimes captured on video recordings,” he added.
‘You didn’t take into account the ongoing trauma your decision caused them.
‘The victim’s pain and anguish was obvious, as was her mother’s vulnerability; However, you decided to have them interrogated.
“It shows the level of arrogance, lack of remorse and the despicable nature of his lack of respect for humanity.”
Robert Mochrie, representing the defendant, said: “He acknowledges that this is truly abhorrent behavior and all that can be said is that he has spoken words to the author of the pre-sentence report which he hopes his victim will hope to put into practice. “. behind them.’
Bellwood’s attacks left his victim with medical problems and unable to regulate his emotions, Durham Crown Court (pictured) heard.
Bellwood will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life as a result of his conviction.
Speaking after the sentencing hearing, Detective Constable Melissa Lamb, of the Darlington Safeguarding Team, said: “This was a deeply disturbing case – the offenses revealed by the young victim are unimaginable and have taken away her childhood.”
‘I would like to congratulate you on the incredible strength and bravery you have shown throughout the entire process.
‘From telling a trusted adult what had happened to being forced to relive the ordeal in court when Bellwood initially pleaded not guilty, they have shown courage beyond their years.
‘(The victim) told us: ‘I had to protect myself because I wasn’t safe.’ No child should ever be subjected to this. Thanks to your resilience and strength, we have been able to ensure this conviction.
“Bellwood is an extremely dangerous individual who used a child for his own sexual gratification with no regard for her well-being or the lasting psychological trauma he has caused.”
