Copenhagen goalkeeper Kamil Grabara endured a mortifying moment when he let Julián Álvarez’s shot slip through his fingers, and Rio Ferdinand was merciless in his taunting.

Grabara should have easily saved Álvarez’s speculative shot from outside the area, but he was beaten and the Danish team trailed 2-0 inside nine minutes at the Etihad.

His mishap saw the Danish champions fall 5-1 on aggregate in their Champions League last-16 tie, all but extinguishing their faint hopes of progressing.

Rio Ferdinand joked: “I thought it might have been the masked singer in the goal!” in reference to Grabara’s mask, which he has worn since 2022 due to a facial fracture.

Unfortunately, Fernando’s assumption was wrong. Mail Sport can confirm that Grabara, 25, is yet to appear in the hit global TV series ‘The Masked Singer’.

Kamil Grabara got off to a terrible start when he allowed Julián Álvarez’s shot to slip through his fingers for Manchester City’s second goal after nine minutes.

TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher had suggested that Grabara’s mask may have slipped, obscuring his vision as Alvarez’s shot flew towards him.

Manuel Akanji had already put Pep Guaridola’s team ahead with a magnificent volley after five minutes.

Alvarez then scored his 16th goal of the season when he fired his shot toward Grabara.

The Polish goalkeeper, who was on Liverpool’s books in 2018/19, did not seem particularly fazed by the error and remained calm.

“It’s poor goalkeeping. It’s a calamitous mistake,” Stephen Warnock told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Copenhagen got the goal back after 29 minutes thanks to Mohamed Elyounoussi in a frenetic first 30 minutes in Manchester.
