The body of a woman found at a Victoria landfill has sparked a major homicide investigation.
Detectives believe the dead woman was placed inside a container that was collected from a property in Coolaroo, north Melbourne, by a garbage truck on Tuesday.
Waste management staff located the body while removing green waste at Cooper Street landfill in Epping on Wednesday.
The staff immediately contacted the police and a homicide investigation was launched.
The woman’s identity and cause of death have not yet been confirmed.
“A major CCTV investigation is ongoing in the Coolaroo area and police are keen to speak to anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage, particularly between Sunday 23 June and Tuesday 2 July,” a police statement said.
‘Detectives are also interested in speaking to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area.’
