A Louisiana mother has been arrested for claims she heard her four-year-old son shoot himself and instead of checking in on him, she fell back asleep.

Arieana Scott, 22, allegedly had a firearm stored in the bedroom closet of her Batron Rouge home when her son gained access to it.

At some point in the morning of March 20 around At 9:30 a.m., the boy shot himself with the unsecured, illegal, modified gun, according to police.

Initially, officers said the mother claimed to have heard the gun go off from her bedroom and then found the boy with a gunshot wound.

However, an affidavit of her arrest released Thursday says she went to sleep for a short time before waking up again to find the boy in a pool of blood.

Scott said she called for the boy and after not hearing back from him, she fell back asleep.

It was revealed that Scott tried to claim she didn’t know where the gun came from because of a felony criminal record, according to WBRZ.

She then found the unsecured gun in her bedroom closet, though she doesn’t know how the four-year-old got it, police said.

When police arrived and found the gun, they obtained a warrant to search Scott’s home.

They found a loaded .40 caliber Glock handgun equipped with a ‘switch’ that could turn the gun into an automatic weapon, and a shell casing was found in the boy’s bedroom.

Police found a large bag of marijuana that had been packed into smaller bags for distribution.

Scott again initially tried to make up a story claiming it was her boyfriend’s personal stash, before admitting she knew it wasn’t for individual use.

The suspect is now in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and faces multiple charges in connection with the shooting.

Police charged Scott with improper supervision of a minor by a parent, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies and possession of a machine gun.

Due to the discovery of marijuana in her home, she also faces charges of possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and possession with intent to distribute narcotics.

Her bond has been set at $65,000 and child services have been notified.

Scott’s son suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and is currently at a local hospital in critical condition.
