Influencer Nara Smith, who has long resisted accusations that she is a “traditional wife,” has debunked the rumours in her signature, soft-spoken style.
Nara, 22, started out as a model and grew her social media following to millions with visually appealing content in which she makes a variety of foods and even medicinal products from scratch — from breakfast cereal and popsicles to cough drops and sunscreen.
She has never identified as a “traditional wife,” meaning women who fetishize postwar gender roles and are often found on social media performatively glorifying housework.
Still, appearing in elegant outfits and with perfect makeup and hair despite getting her hands dirty in the kitchen for the benefit of her husband and/or children, Nara certainly seemed to be aligned with the ideology of the traditional wife.
Nara Smith, 22, is known for her ethereal cooking videos that many have interpreted as aligning with traditional wife ideology.
While she has never identified herself as a “traditional wife,” the way Nara has tended to glorify domestic life on social media has caught the attention of many people.
She has been married to model Lucky Blue Smith, 26, since 2020, and the couple share three children: Rumble Honey, three, Slim Easy, two, and Whimsy Lou, three months.
Comments on her posts tend to range from genuine amazement to concern, even to suspicion and accusations that she supports the general idea that wives act as unpaid servants to their husbands and children.
But from Nara’s point of view, that is simply not the case.
“I didn’t know that finding joy in cooking for my husband and kids would automatically mean slaving away in the kitchen,” she began in a voiceover for a new video as she was seen getting out of bed.
“I’m out of work and I have a whole production team at home making sure that happens. To be clear, none of that is true,” he said.
“I’m a working mother who has to juggle all kinds of roles and responsibilities,” she continued.
To refute rumors that she only cooks for her husband and children, Nara also mentioned personal health reasons that explain why she dedicates herself to preparing everything from scratch.
“Cooking has always been a big part of my life, especially after I was diagnosed with lupus and my eczema started to flare up,” she explained.
In a new video, Nara responded that she is a “working mother” who “judges all kinds of roles and responsibilities.”
Later in the video, she enjoys breakfast with her husband, model Lucky Blue Smith, 26, as they “catch up on things we didn’t get to talk about the day before.”
After getting ready, Nara dressed her children and combed their hair.
‘I knew I had to change the way I eat and the way I approach life.’
From there, the video chronicles her day as she prepared to travel to New York City with Whimsy Lou for her “ninth photo shoot” since her birth in April.
Nara then “made breakfast for the kids while they colored and skateboarded around the house,” before having breakfast with Lucky and “catching up on things we didn’t get to talk about the day before.”
She then got ready herself, put on makeup and a simple outfit, then dressed the children and combed their hair.
Then, with an hour to go before her car arrived at the airport, she decided to do some shopping so Lucky would have “the essentials when he was home alone” and even planned his meals for the next few days.
‘At that point, I realized I only had an hour until my car came to pick me up.
“Lucky never lets me pack my own bags, so he did it for me and we said goodbye before I headed to the airport,” she added.
Nara and Lucky tied the knot in 2020 and share three children: three-year-old Rumble Honey, two-year-old Slim Easy, and three-month-old Whimsy Lou.
Thousands of people took to the comments to applaud Nara for the no-nonsense response to her detractors, delivered in the softest of voices.
Thousands of people flocked to the comments of the new post to express their support and highlight how impressive it is that Nara remains calm even when responding to hate.
“This is the quietest applause I’ve ever received,” wrote one.
“She devoured them all with such grace and kindness, wow!” added a second.
“She drank her tea like a CLASSY QUEEN,” said a third.
“Nara is so carefree she’s living her best life,” a fourth observed.
And as a fifth praised: ‘I feel like people don’t recognize the discipline you clearly have because you make everything you do look SO easy and effortless, but it’s all because of the work and effort you put in!’
Nara also addressed the issue of her apparent domestic role in a an old post.
Summing up what her husband “eats in a day” (all of which she cooks for him), she clarified: “Cooking is my love language. So it’s not something that’s expected of me, it’s just something I love to do.”
