Southwest Airlines passengers have reported that all of the company’s flights have been grounded due to an IT issue – apparently affecting airports across the country.
In social media posts, travelers from Colorado to Florida say they are being held over the issue, which is said to affect the entire company’s system.
The nationwide stoppage was confirmed by the carrier, which blamed the stoppages on “intermittent technology issues.”
The disruption has so far lasted more than half an hour, and could disrupt hundreds – possibly thousands of flights.
The incident, which is still in development, comes after a similar outage in the system led to the cancellation of more than 16,000 Southwest flights in January – and subsequently six High-level near misses so far this year.
