- ‘High clearance vehicle’ closed Sydney Harbor tunnel
- Motorists are advised to “delay” their trip
Sydney’s morning commute was thrown into chaos following the closure of the Sydney Harbor Tunnel on Thursday.
An over-the-height limit truck entered and closed all southbound lanes just before 7am, Live Traffic Sydney reported.
The tunnel was reopened a short time later, after the truck was moved to the side, but traffic was already concentrated throughout northern Sydney.
Traffic was paralyzed about 8 kilometers into the Lane Cove tunnel further north.
“If you can delay your trip to the city, it would be wise to do so,” said 2GB presenter Ben Fordham.
Motorists were advised to use the Harbor Bridge as an alternative and allow additional travel time, and to “exercise caution and allow some additional time” if going through the tunnel.
