A Coles shopper says she found the gruesome remains of a mouse inside a freshly opened can of Coles brand red beans.

Lauren Whitburn was cooking when she opened and drained a 420g can of Coles brand red beans on Saturday night.

Whitburn had bought the can and other food at the Coles supermarket in Mount Barker, South Australia.

But she says she made a gruesome discovery when she emptied the contents into a colander, with what appears to be the chewed remains of a mouse mixed in with the beans.

Lauren Whitburn made the grisly discovery after emptying the 420g can of Coles brand red beans she had bought at the Mount Barker store in South Australia.

The images show what appears to be a mouse’s paw and claw among the kidney beans (left and right). Ms Whitburn said she was concerned the remaining parts of the rodent could be inside other cans bought by an unsuspecting customer.

Whitburn said she was upset and worried that the rest of the rodent may be inside other cans purchased by unsuspecting buyers.

“I am absolutely horrified and concerned that other cans contain other remains of the animal,” Whitburn said.

“This is a significant health risk and concern.”

He urged Coles to alert customers as soon as possible and remove the product from its shelves.

“I am concerned that Coles is not taking the necessary steps,” Ms Whitham said.

“This batch of product should be removed from the market as soon as possible and people need to be made aware.”

Coles told Daily Mail Australia the supermarket is investigating the issue with its supplier.

‘Food safety is paramount at Coles. “We are concerned about this customer’s experience and discovery with this product, and are currently investigating with our supplier,” Coles said.

‘Our suppliers take great care in processing all of our products and include teams and equipment that carry out raw material inspections, pest control and quality checks during processing.

“We have apologized to the customer for their experience and have initiated an immediate investigation with our supplier.”
